How Freed grew AI brand visibility from 10% to 48%
Freed sells an AI scribe to doctors, an audience that asks very specific questions before it trusts a product. Lauren Funaro, Content Marketing Manager at Freed, explains how the team used Gumshoe to find the questions they were missing, earn the citations that mattered, and report the results to leadership.

The Company
About Freed
Freed is an AI medical scribe. It listens to patient visits and writes the clinical notes, so doctors spend less time on documentation. Its buyers are clinicians, and they choose tools based on whether the product works for their specialty, their type of practice, and the EHR they already use.
The Challenge
Finding an AEO tool that fit how Freed works
When Freed started evaluating answer engine optimization tools, the requirements became clear quickly. The team needed to ask a large number of questions, not a short fixed list. They needed to pick the AI models that mattered to their buyers and see where Freed was missing in each one. And they needed reporting strong enough to turn the data into a content plan.
Gumshoe was strongest on reporting. Seeing exactly which pages AI models cite, and whether Freed appears on them, showed the team which content to create and which existing pages to get onto.
What They Learned
Strong SEO is the foundation of strong AEO
Freed went in assuming AEO was a different discipline from SEO. Looking at Freed's domain next to its top competitors in Gumshoe changed that view. Domain strength kept showing up as one of the biggest levers for getting cited.
The question became how to adapt SEO work so individual pages get pulled into AI answers. The answer was to match the questions buyers actually ask. Freed built FAQs and question-style H2s around them, such as "What EHR does Freed work with?" and "Does Freed work with my EHR?"
When the team reran the report, Freed showed up for those niche queries, even though a competitor still led overall brand visibility at the time. Freed answered the question, so Freed got pulled into the result. The team doubled down on that play.
How They Use It
Four plays that moved Freed into AI answers
Persona research by specialty, practice, and EHR
Doctors trust a product that has been proven in their own specialty, and they hesitate when they can't find that evidence fast. Freed isolated the queries that named a specialty, a practice type, or an EHR. That showed which personas converted well once they found Freed but weren't finding Freed in AI answers. Those personas got dedicated content.
Citation outreach
Gumshoe's citation data lists the pages AI models cite and whether Freed appears on each one. The team exported those domains and reached out to get Freed included. In the latest report, several of the listicles they had targeted were citing pages that now include Freed.
A query set built from sales calls and Reddit
Gumshoe generates prompts on its own, and Freed added its own research on top. The team pulled common objections from sales call recordings and looked through Reddit for questions the original prompts weren't covering. They edited their prompts to include both, then ran a new report.
Content that fills the gaps
The new report showed exactly which questions came back without Freed in the answer. The team worked those answers into FAQs and into sections of articles that were already live, so Freed would show up in the response.
Results
From 10% to 48%, and a reporting flywheel
Freed's brand visibility in AI search grew from 10% to 48%. Each quarter, the team brings a Gumshoe report to leadership that shows where visibility went up, on which models, on which queries, and which mentions they still need to win.
The data also feeds Freed's other metrics. The team checks how the pages AI models cite affect signups, then strengthens the AEO on the pages that convert. The same report that goes to leadership tells them which pages to work on next.

A partner while learning AEO
Freed's questions got fast answers. Some requests turned into product updates. When one couldn't, the Gumshoe team explained a workaround that got Freed to the same goal.
When Gumshoe's subscription model changed, Mira Hayashi booked a call right away to work out which reports would best show how Freed's plays were performing under the new plan.
"We needed a tool with extremely strong reporting, and that is where Gumshoe by far has exceeded our expectations, particularly in finding the citations and what pages are directly being cited."
