Nick is Gumshoe's Research Engineer and the mind behind much of the statistical methodology that gives the platform its rigor. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Washington's Information School, where his research focuses on the epistemic aspects of large language models and how users interact with AI-delivered knowledge.

Nick has published research at EMNLP and COLM, two of the top venues in natural language processing. His academic work directly informs how Gumshoe approaches measurement: how many conversations are needed for statistical confidence, how to account for the inherent variability in LLM outputs, and how to design prompts that reflect genuine user behavior rather than synthetic benchmarks.

As the author of Gumshoe's technical blog posts on measurement methodology, Nick bridges the gap between academic rigor and practical product design. When clients ask 'Can I trust these numbers?', the answer is yes, and Nick's work is the reason why.
